![]() Beyond the intentional graphical issues, I don't remember a single hitch or frame drop. At no point throughout my playthrough did I ever feel like I was playing something significantly different from the PC original. I reccomend this game, but I’d reccomend its main opponent Outlast even more.Amnesia: Collection | A Modern Classic Amnesia: The Dark Descent looks great on the Switch.Īs far as ports go it's as close to the original version as it gets. In conclusion, this game is creepy, entertaining, and probably suitable for teen audiences, (Who have a strong stomach for environmental gore) and it is nicely constructed, if not creepy. (Entering a clearly essential area, performing and essential action, or picking up an item.) To top this off, there are no jump scares. Sadly, every single enemy spawn is scripted, and if you observe well, you’ll be able to easily tell when an enemy will spawn. You need surprise, because when we are not prepared to handle something, it is scary, and, frankly, the lack of the element of surprise is the fatal flaw of Amnesia. To scare someone, your need more than an infamously foreboding atmosphere. Is this game scary? Simply put, to get any real fear out of it, I needed to turn out the lights, play at night, and turn my headphones way up, and even this provided moderate fear. (Pulling random books off of shelves, a good half hour spent on turning on valves, and, while we’re talking about annoyances, the sanity bar never lets up, causing more frustration than fear.) However, the game makes up for it with its smooth gameplay and creepy mechanics which leads us to our last subject. Second, how is the entertainment? Let me start by saying I enjoyed the game, although the puzzles are frequently pointless. There is cursing, but not much of the “big bads.” (There are naked corpses, but not many encounters and/or interactions with them.) Firsthand violence is minimal, but like with many other horror games, there is evidence of it in the environment. There is no sexual content, but there is an implied murder. (SPOILER WARNING FROM THIS POINT ON) In the very end you can kill alexander and finish your mission, giving you "Daniel's ending" in which daniel talks about how he had done terrable things in his life, however, he did everything possible to right his wrongs.įirst of all, is this game appropriate, which is the question that most parents probably came to hear answered. ![]() Common sense makes absolutely no mention of this, and I believe that they should edit their page to include this. The goal of the player from this point forward is to kill the man who is trying to destroy the world and expiramented on innocent men women and children to further his dark magic. In the present, Daniel took an amnesia potion to lose his memory because of the terrable things he had done. In his past he has done some terrable things, and did it selfishly. Your character daniel is set to right his wrongs as a person. ![]() I believe that depending on how you look at it you can argue that the entire game is a positive message. One of the things that I believe common sense got wrong with their review is positive messages. ![]() There are times in the game where looking back, there were no monsters or other threat, but due to the sound design you're on your toes the entire time. Less of this horror comes from cheap jump scares, and instead is from incredible sound design, atmosphere, and eerie characters. Amnesia does a fantastic job of making the player feel scared. Other than that, it comes down to the scares. There is constant gore and 1 or 2 times that you see a nude dead body. I think that the age of the player should be dependent on their maturity. Undoubtedly one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time. ![]()
